Common questions
What is an FEI number?+
An FEI (FDA Establishment Identifier) is an FDA-assigned identifier for a firm or facility. It is separate from a D&B DUNS number, an FDA food facility registration number and any product approval. Check the FDA FEI Search Portal before requesting a new number.
When do I need an FEI number?+
Cosmetic manufacturers need an FEI number before completing MoCRA facility registration. Drug manufacturers need it before drug establishment registration. If your facility already appears in FDA records from a previous food or device registration, you may already have one.
Is an FEI number the same as a DUNS number?+
No. DUNS is a Dun & Bradstreet identifier FDA currently recognizes as the UFI for food facility registration. FEI is a separate FDA-assigned identifier used in other programs, including cosmetic facility registration. An FEI lookup does not verify the status of a food facility registration.
Is FEI acquisition included in your bundles?+
Yes. FEI acquisition is included in the Cosmetics Starter Bundle ($449), Cosmetics Brand Launch Bundle ($1,249), Drug Full Setup ($799), and Drug Full Setup + Listings ($1,399). The standalone FEI service ($149) is for companies that only need the FEI number.
